Invested in solutions that strengthen public systems

Our $20M Public Benefit Innovation Fund supports the development and deployment of AI-enabled technologies that improve access to essential public benefits like Medicaid, SNAP, and child care. The Fund also invests in community building, shared learning, and implementation support so the tools that work don’t just launch, they last.

Focused on the complexities of governing frontier technologies

Our AI Readiness Project works with governments learning how to govern new technologies in real time. What began as a handful of early adopters has grown into a fast-expanding community of more than 30 states and territories that meet monthly to learn from one another and from experts in AI and other emerging technologies.

In these sessions, public leaders compare notes, share lessons, and talk candidly about what’s working and what isn’t. It’s a trusted space to unpack the details that matter most: governance frameworks, procurement hurdles, legislative expectations, and the practical realities of implementation. Participants also hear directly from emerging-technology experts and practitioners, giving them space to pressure-test ideas and translate technical concepts into government reality.

Beyond these conversations, smaller working groups give leaders a chance to go deeper on emerging issues shaping the future of government technology—exploring complex topics, experimenting with new tools, and co-developing resources that others can use.

Our working groups

Agentic AI

Leaders are exploring how emerging agentic systems can be governed responsibly, identifying practical guardrails, policy guidance, and real-world applications that support public benefit while minimizing risk.

AI & Workforce Policy

This group examines how AI is reshaping work, helping governments understand potential disruptions and design proactive strategies to support workers and communities through change.

AI Evaluation & Monitoring

Members focus on how to evaluate AI tools in real-world conditions, developing shared frameworks for performance, accountability, and continuous learning across government.

Rooted in the realities of human services

Our work is guided by the Public Sector Advisory Committee, a national group of current and former health and human services leaders with deep experience delivering programs that serve people every day. Their insight keeps our work grounded in the real challenges, priorities, and progress underway across government.

Hands-on support for human services leaders

Public agencies are under growing pressure to modernize responsibly and quickly. Our Project Clearinghouse helps them navigate that complexity with confidence. Through short, focused engagements, we help agencies turn emerging technology into practical improvements for the people they serve.

Each eight- to ten-week engagement brings together policy, technical, and operational experts who meet teams where they are. Together, we help agencies make sense of new tools, weigh risks and benefits, and plan for responsible adoption across programs like Medicaid, SNAP, TANF, WIC, and child care.

The Clearinghouse gives agencies the structure and expertise to move quickly, act responsibly, and deliver better outcomes for communities nationwide.
